Thumbtack needed to move beyond a simple broadcast to deepen connection among the Pro Community, but faced significant hurdles, including the availability of their audience and crafting an engaging event agenda.

Our Approach

Designing a virtual summit strategy with the audience at the center

To boost virtual event engagement, Ingenuity focused on a mobile-friendly user experience and a clear communication timeline to shift the event’s focus from presentation to conversation.

  • Designing for Pro behavior: We crafted a multi-format agenda, ensuring segments were digestible for Pros on the move.
  • Bringing the Pro voice forward: We made peer-driven storytelling central to the event—creating Pro Spotlight videos, day-in-the-life features, and the Pro Advisory Board panel to transform the summit into an authentic, shared community conversation.
  • Live-only value: We prioritized live Q&A and peer-led panels to provide value that couldn’t be replicated on-demand, creating a genuine reason to show up live.
  • Strategic event marketing: We shaped the promotional email messaging and cadence to give Pros a clear reason to show up live—emphasizing direct leadership dialogue and real-time networking that couldn’t be experienced on a recording.

The Activation

Designing a live experience that enriches the audience’s time

The centerpiece of this activation was the engagement-driven, multi-format agenda, which functioned as a highly interactive, real-time experience. Instead of passive viewing, we created a strategy where short breakout sessions and real-time polling ensured Pros were participants, not just observers.

Ingenuity Design focused on the user experience to bridge brand messaging with community connection for the Thumbtack Pro Summit, delivering a repeatable virtual event model that drove a directional increase in post-event platform activity.

The Result

The 2025 Pro Summit proved that an audience-centered event format effectively kept an on-the-go audience engaged while driving clear commercial intent.

Thumbtack observed a directional increase in average Pro spending on the platform within four weeks post-summit, proving the event successfully built confidence and deeper platform adoption.

In a 120-minute core program, this extraordinary retention rate confirms the content was useful and the format respected the audience’s time.
